MILESTONES AND MEMORIES
The Bee Gees scored their first UK chart-topper this week in 1967 when Massachusetts hit number one. When they wrote the song, the Bee Gees had never been to Massachusetts.

Ted Mulry Gang’s Jump In My Car entered the Australian charts this week in 1975.

This week in 1980, Flowers released their debut album, Icehouse. The band would later become known as Icehouse.

Also this week in 1980, INXS released their self-titled debut album, featuring the hit single Just Keep Walking.

INXS’s Listen Like Thieves topped the Australian albums chart this week in 1985.

Thirty years ago this week, Kylie’s fourth album, Let’s Get To It, was released. It was Kylie’s final SAW album.

Twenty-five years ago this week, Peter Andre’s Natural album hit number one in the UK.

Richard Clapton and Jimmy Little were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame this week in 1999.

Olivia Newton-John was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame this week in 2002.

Ten years ago this week, Cold Chisel’s Light The Nitro Tour kicked off in Newcastle.

Happy Birthday to Gabriella Cilmi who is 30 on October 10.

And we remember Australian opera diva Dame Joan Sutherland – one of the first ARIA Hall of Fame inductees – who died in Switzerland, of heart failure, aged 83, this week in 2010. And Australian singer Peter Doyle died of cancer, aged 52, 20 years ago this week. He had been a member of The New Seekers and The Virgil Brothers, and reportedly knocked back the chance to be LRB’s first lead singer.
