MILESTONES AND MEMORIES
Olivia Newton-John represented the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest this week in 1974, singing Long Live Love. She came fourth. ABBA won, performing Waterloo.

John Paul Young’s Yesterday’s Hero entered the charts this week in 1975.

Cold Chisel’s Forever Now entered the charts this week in 1982.

Hunters & Collectors released the album Human Frailty this week in 1986.

Cold Chisel released No Plans, their first studio album in 14 years, this week in 2012. It debuted at number two, kept out of top spot by One Direction.

Ten years ago this week, Russell Morris scored his first Top 10 album when Sharkmouth entered the ARIA Top 10.

Also 10 years ago this week, a Herald Sun poll of artists placed John Farnham at number one on the list of Australia’s greatest ever singers.

And we remember Jimmy Little, who died after a long illness, aged 75, this week in 2012. Beasts of Bourbon drummer Tony Pola died this week in 2021. The Angels’ founding bass player, Chris Bailey, died of cancer, aged 62, this week in 2013. He was also a member of GANGgajang. And Big Day Out co-founder Ken West died, aged 64, a year ago this week.

ARIA’s Top 40 features just one Australian single – The Kid Laroi’s Stay, which has been on the charts for 89 weeks.

Matt Corby has a Top 10 debut, with his third album landing at number eight. It’s the only Aussie album in the Top 40.
