Fifty years ago this week, Col Joye scored his final number one single in Australia when Heaven Is My Woman’s Love topped the charts.
Andy Gibb’s I Just Want To Be Your Everything hit number one in the US this week in 1977.
2JJ moved to FM this week in 1980, becoming 2JJJ.
Rick Springfield’s Jessie’s Girl hit number one in the US this week in 1981.
Olivia Newton-John received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this week in 1981.
Australian Crawl scored their first number one album this week in 1981 when Sirocco topped the charts. And their third album, Sons of Beaches, became their second number one album this week in 1982.
Cold Chisel’s Khe Sanh cracked the Australian Top 40 this week in 2011 – 33 years after it was first released.
Happy Birthday to Russell Morris who is 75 on July 31. Jessica Mauboy is 34 on August 4. And Angry Anderson is 76, and Samantha Sang – who had a worldwide hit with Emotion in 1978 (written by Barry and Robin Gibb) – is 72, on August 5.
And we remember Uncle Archie Roach and Judith Durham, who both died a year ago this week. Archie was 66; Judith was 79.
