This week in 1971, the Bee Gees scored their first number one single in the US when How Can You Mend A Broken Heart topped the charts. And they scored their second US chart-topper this week in 1975 when Jive Talkin’ hit number one.
Fifty years ago this week, Blackfeather’s Boppin’ The Blues entered the charts.
AC/DC’s Back In Black album hit number one in the UK this week in 1980.
Missy Higgins’ Scar debuted at number one this week in 2004.
Happy Birthday to Vanessa Amorosi who is 41, and Deborah Conway who is 63, on August 8. INXS drummer Jon Farriss is 61 on August 10. And Men At Work drummer Jerry Speiser is 69 on August 12.
And we remember pioneering Australian rock journalist Lillian Roxon who died in New York after an asthma attack, aged 41, this week in 1973. She wrote the world’s first rock encyclopedia, 1969’s Lillian Roxon’s Rock Encyclopedia.
