MILESTONES AND MEMORIES
This week in 1975, Graham Russell, Russell Hitchcock and Chrissie Hammond met in Sydney at rehearsals for the Australian production of Jesus Christ Superstar. They formed a vocal group. Hammond left to form Cheetah, while Hitchcock and Russell started Air Supply.
John Paul Young’s Love Is In The Air entered the Australian charts this week in 1978.
Cold Chisel’s Cheap Wine was released this week in 1980.
INXS made their US chart debut this week in 1983 when The One Thing entered the charts. It would peak at number 30.
Frente’s debut album, Marvin The Album, entered the US charts this week in 1994. It would peak at number 75.
Twenty years ago this week, Holly Valance’s debut single, Kiss Kiss, hit number one in the UK.
The Seekers’ 50th Anniversary Tour was postponed this week in 2013 when singer Judith Durham suffered a brain haemorrhage after a Melbourne show.
Happy Birthday to Darren Hayes who is 50, and the Blue Wiggle, Anthony Field, who is 59, on May 8. And Casey Donovan – the second Australian Idol winner – is 34 on May 13.
And we remember Dynamic Hepnotics and Mental As Anything drummer Robbie Souter, who died of liver failure, aged 68, five years ago this week.
